They say the one way to get people to come to college events is to promise food. I tend to agree. They also say that you could live off of the food provided at the Minervas. Also true.
So, when I was reminded that today was Thursday (yes, my life is that busy that I tend to forget), I was quite excited when I heard that Green House was continuing to offer its "Cooking with Professors" series!
I've attended this weekly event three times so far this term and have to say that it may just be my favorite Minerva event I have seen throughout my three years at Union. Each week, a professor comes to Green and either cooks for students or teaches them how to cook a specific meal. These dinners range from ethnic dishes to farm-grown organic food, straight from the professor's garden.
The event is so great because it gives faculty and students the chance to interact in an informal setting, outside of the normal classroom atmosphere. Not only have I learned a little more about the history and background of the traditional dishes, I have also been introduced to new professors from other departments, individuals I might not otherwise have had the chance to meet.
All in all, I give Green House much support in furthering the ideals and purpose of the Minerva system to bring the campus--the students, faculty, and staff--together in a way very unique to our college. As part of the Sorum council, there may be a friendly rivalry between our conjoined Houses (just kidding, I love Green, too...especially since I know the majority of the Council!), but either way, I wholeheartedly endorse Green's great efforts to bring the campus closer. Nice job!
It is definitely true that there is never a lack of things to do at Union, especially due to the efforts of the Minervas! So, keep up the good work everyone!! And keep on cooking that delicious food!
