Good afternoon! What a beautiful day to start off Spring Weekend!! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and everyone is good spirits! Should be a fun weekend!!
Well, there are only three more Minervas to discuss, so here's some information on the fifth one: Beuth House!
TOP FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT BEUTH

1.
ORIGINS: Beuth House was one of the first Minervas to be named, opening as "Beuth" for the 2004-2005 school year. I always wondered why Beuth's colors were red...Before Messa House was named this year, it was formerly called "Blue," which I would sometimes confuse with "Beuth" (they sort of sound similar?). Anyway, I haven't heard any specific reason for this Minerva's color as red, but I wonder if it has something to do with the fraternity that formerly was housed in the building (see below)?

2.
NAME: Beuth House was named after Union graduate, Philip R. Beuth '54. In
this article, Beuth cited his appreciation for the college and vowed to give back to Union on the fiftieth anniversary of his graduation. Beuth said, "In my sophomore year, I couldn't afford to live in the dorms, so I crashed there for a while," referring to the forming fraternity house that now bears his namesake.

3.
LOCATION: Beuth is located on somewhat of a hill...Well, there's a hill below it, but there's not really much of an incline if you're just walking to the building on the sidewalk. Memorial Chapel is right below below and the Humanities classrooms are a 30 second walk from Beuth's front door. This building is also located near Golub House, Human Resources, and Lamont House (currently hosting social studies offices while the building is being renovated). Plus, the gym is only a minute walk away!

4.
UNIQUENESS: This Minerva is one of the closest-knit communities I've seen on campus. The layout of the two floors of dorms create what seems like a very warm environment (at least from my experience of living there over last summer). And there are great study areas downstairs! I've even had class in Beuth four times over my past three years at Union(it was supposed to be five, but we moved to another classroom). The many beautiful murals on the downstairs walls make this Minerva unique in and of itself.

5.
CLAIM TO FAME: I have fond memories of Pancake Fridays at Beuth my freshman year. And I'm pretty sure that that tradition has been continued on, or maybe been slightly modified since. Beuth's Haunted House also draws a big crowd in the fall, which is always a great deal of fun. This Minerva also often creates many cultural events, in addition to recently hosting a phenomenal Italian dinner cooked by one of Union's very own staff members!
BONUS FUN FACT: As previously mentioned, Beuth House was a former fraternity: Union's very own
Psi Upsilon! Established in 1833, Psi U cannot be currently found on campus, but is still known to find its beginnings at Union as the fifth oldest fraternity in the country.
Thanks for reading up on the exciting Minerva,
BEUTH HOUSE!!Up next week: Messa House, the most recently named Minerva!
